Once the situation passes, a bureaucracy is hardwired to return to its complicated, business-as-usual structures and awaits the next crisis; it is not designed to quickly adapt based on the situation it just encountered.

The leaders who work most effectively, it seems to me, never say 'I'. And that's not because they have trained themselves not to say 'I'. They don't think 'I'. They think 'we'; they think 'team'. They understand their job to make the team function. They accept responsibility and don't sidestep it, but 'we' gets the credit. This is what creates trust, what enables you to get the task done.

About this Blog

It’s great to welcome you on my blog, where you find a variety of interesting articles, videos, quotes, and images on leadership, mostly in a business context. Look at it as my personal, growing collection that I like to share.

I am the head of operations and a member of the executive management of an SME located in Switzerland, an alumnus of  the Open University (BA in Leadership and Management), and a conscript deputy batallion commander / chief of staff (OF-3) in the Swiss Armed Forces. During the past ten plus years, I have been leading people in different situations and organisations, ranging from small teams to large business and military units in the private sector as well as in peacekeeping missions abroad. Despite the variety, all these situations have one thing in common: the special feeling of accomplishment when a bunch of different people achieves a common goal thanks to skill, commitment, companionship, and… good leadership.
